How to Maintenance a BJD doll? Some Dos & Don’ts

Do you want to company your BJD friends as long as possible? Do you want to keep your precious dolls in good condition? Do you want to make your baby dolls look fabulous?

If yes, please keep these dos and don’ts in mind when maintaining BJD.

1. Don’t expose the dolls to the sunlight in case of accelerated yellowing.

(Yellowing is an aging phenomenon of the resin, i.e., the white resin will gradually turn light yellow.) We suggest covering the dolls with a cloth when you don’t play.

2. Do keep the dolls away from the children and high temperatures lest the children get hurt or the dolls get damaged.

3. Do protect the dolls’ containers, clothes, and accessories from moisture.

4. Do avoid using a flashlight when photographing the dolls. The flashlight has little influence on the resin but may impair the quality of photos. Soft light is recommended.

By the way, it is always a good manner not to use a flashlight on others’ dolls.

5. Don’t change the makeup frequently. Avoid heavy use of chemical solvents even though the resin is corrosion-resistant.

When removing the makeup, don’t soak the parts in makeup remover for a long time. Clean them gently to avoid scratches.

6. What you should do if your dolls get scratched?

  1. Depends on the size and depth of scratches. Light scratches can be polished, while heavy ones have to be repaired with clay. For the breaking pieces, you can use glue No. 502 to stick them together. If you’re not good at handicrafts, ask for help from the professionals or get after-sales service from the shop.
  2. Parting lines can also be rubbed down if any.
  3. You can sand down the whole doll if it heavily yellows.
  4. Due to the different speeds and depth of manual polish, the resin may have light scratches or turn white. Besides, improper rubbing may affect appearance. Rubbed or polished dolls cannot be the same as the new ones.

7. How to send the dolls for makeup?

  1. The priority is to find a good makeup artist. You need to read their portfolio and makeup rules carefully.
  2. If all suits you, tell them your requirements and both agree on a price.
  3. Then you can detach the doll’s head and send it for makeup.
  4. The time may vary from days to weeks, subject to the artist’s efficiency and weather conditions.
  5. Check the evaluations on the makeup artist before you choose them.
